It feels so weird creating this to ask for help. But, here I am.

I lost my full-time job in June but was able to collect unemployment. While it will run out next week, I still work a very part-time job (5-10 hours a week). But..... I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. As of now, the cancer is in one breast. I've chosen to have a double mastectomy. While I am still not sure it's the right decision, the odds of the cancer not returning seemed better if I don't have a breast for it to come back to!

I will see the plastic surgeon at the end of this month (September) and the surgery will be scheduled in October. The doctors have told me recovery will be 6 to 8 weeks and not to plan to return to work until at least January!

Like every other family, we struggle even with two incomes (the price of insulin and diabetes meds is so high). Well, with me not working and not having any income, it's going to put a big strain on us. My husband works as much overtime as his job allows—60 hours a week if it's offered. After my surgery, I will need him to help me recover as much as he can be available. My kids are already working together to be sure someone will be with me at all times until I'm able to start doing things for myself again.

I'm asking for help with traveling back and forth to Iowa City for appointments, medical supplies during recovery, regular monthly bills, groceries, and needs. I've been stressing so much and doctors have told me that stress could make cancer mad and/or more aggressive.

I will be the first to admit—I did not prepare for anything like this. I planned on going back to work and having a great holiday season, but that wasn't in the cards for me.

If you could help me get through these next few months, it would be such a blessing.

People keep telling me I'm strong and can beat this, but I'm scared, very scared.

If you would like to follow my story on Facebook, I have created a group called "My Cry for Help" that I update almost every day. Please donate, share, and/or pray for me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this until the end.
