Dear friends- At a critical moment in our 5th district of Minnesota, I decided to try to make a difference in the direction of our community. The morning after witnessing the tragic killing of George Floyd, rather than just sit on the sidelines and keep complaining about how too many politicians are more a part of the problem than they are a part of any solution, I got involved and started doing something about it. I entered the 2020 race for U.S. Congress with a Major Party Endorsement to attempt to win back this seat for our district, for the good people of Minnesota and really for the entire United States.
With no money, very little time, and a complete blacklist from any and all media outlets, we achieved the impossible, garnering more votes than any other independent candidate in a traditional congressional race. On Nov. 3rd, nearly 10 percent of voters in the 5th district chose me over the incumbent. Despite 50,000 MORE voters this year, the incumbent LOST 20,000 votes from her 2018 total. In other words, she is TRENDING DOWN. There were record amounts of money spent by both the Democratic (almost 5 Million dollars) and Republican (almost 10 Million dollars) candidates. Meanwhile, we used NO funds whatsoever. Truly, an incredible feat. The Democratic candidate ran for 2 years, the Republican candidate ran for 19 months. we ran for 4 MONTHS. Again, an impossible achievement. The Republican and Democratic candidate received constant news coverage, while media outlets consistently framed the race as strictly a 2-person race. Flatly refusing to acknowledge our existence. We were totally ignored and dismissed, in many cases, unfairly omitted from the conversation entirely.
So, now we understand the reality of this situation. 1.) we must have significant financing. 2.) We must begin right away, and use the longest possible time we have to achieve our goal. 3.) We must insert ourselves into the most popular political party, rather than remain "third-party" outsiders. We want to win, and we will win, with your help. Your money will be used for lawn signs, posters, radio, on-line, newspaper, and television advertisements, professional and experienced staff, and to properly fund this brand new effort. We will make sure 100% of the people know that this time, in Aug. 2022, they will have a choice to do the right thing.
By the way, in case anyone is still confused, I’m not that Michael Moore…I’m the other guy. Mickey. The guy who went to an elite private school, who couldn’t wait to finish university to start opening up businesses. Who went to California to be a cop and ended up on the radio. Who needed a place to get his hair braided and ended up starting America’s premier luxury hair braiding salon. Since 1996, and still the area’s top hair braiding establishment with over 300,000 customers served. (I know, what’s a hair braiding salon, right…? Don’t worry about it, the point is, it's still popular after 25 years…)
It’s extremely rare to have a freshman U.S. Rep. be so embarrassingly divisive to both sides of the political spectrum, but our incumbent representative accomplished this within just months of her being elected. People across the country have already labeled Omar as "Anti-American", "Anti-Semitic" and thoroughly untrustworthy. A person who tweets, “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel,” should not be given the power of a United States Representative. She apologized and deleted the tweet, but months later, she infamously remarked that support for Israel by US lawmakers is “all about the Benjamins,” clearly implying that politicians are paid to support Israel. At a town hall, Omar said, “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.” Again, she later apologized. But this pattern of offending, and then apologizing only to thwart political blow back is UNACCEPTABLE.
The 5th district of Minnesota is a historically rich political district. It’s where I grew up. I’ve walked every street in that district because I was born there. I fished all the city lakes and rivers, I played in the park board recreational leagues, I attended the churches there. My friends lived there. My businesses were there. The 5th district has a legacy of some of the greatest congressmen of all time. Donald Fraser and Martin Olav Sabo held the post for almost 45 years. Their accomplishments are legendary. Minnesota has some of the most influential, respected and powerfully motivating political leaders this country has ever had. Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Paul Wellstone, Sharon Sayles Belton, and many others. Their reputations across political lines is unmatched. This is the legacy to which I wish to return. Not extremist or progressive anger and divisive partisanship, but camaraderie and a partnership across party lines that achieves meaningful goals for all the citizens .
Omar says, “raise hell. Make people uncomfortable. Because here’s the truth, here’s the truth, far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen. And frankly, I’m tired of it. And every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it.” This is beyond inappropriate. This is a U.S. Representative taking their own personal agenda and trying to rally a country behind it. We have to find the will to counter that sort of unproductive division and anger. We have to find a way to balance Hate with Love.
Because of her continued lack of candor and honesty, we still don’t yet know the truth behind her string of irregular marriages, but we do know that Omar was caught having an affair with a political consultant to whom her campaign has funneled over $800,000. (at the time of writing this post it was only 800K...it's likely much more by now...) Because it's so clearly immoral, unpopular and unflattering she tried to deny this reality. He did too. Then only a few months later, she married the same political consultant.
No one will ever have to worry that I would ever exhibit these sort of gross transgressions of integrity. I have no political ambition, I have no need for outside political consultation. Only the residents of the 5th district will ever dictate my representation. I’m happily married to the only woman I’ve ever asked. We have 1 child. (you’ll have to trust me when I say, for me, that's enough...of both…) I built multiple businesses around Minneapolis and St. Paul, and due to my successes, I was able to retire about 10 years ago. I spend all my time taking care of my family and working on my small, 3 acre property. I have no reason to lie to anyone, and I have no lies in my past from which I need to hide. Most importantly, I vow to operate this campaign with complete transparency regarding funding, staffing, messaging and effort. While Omar has used her office to rake in some of the highest fund-raising amounts in congress, “Data on OpenSecrets.org shows the Omar campaign has been E Street Group’s biggest moneymaker...” I will do the exact opposite. In my opinion, people will always respect someone who proves that they are not getting into politics for fame, money or ambition. And that perfectly describes me.
I could spend pages detailing all of the unAmerican and unhelpful actions and attitudes of my opponent. After 2 years of being herself, she has made clear who she is and what she is. I have no doubt, that over the next 2 years she will prove more of the same. She has already focused the interests of well-funded political action groups hellbent on seeing her ousted from Congress. So everyone knows the reasons well, I don't have to repeat all of them. The bottom line is that we need to bring back professional competence to the 5th district and you can help me. I don’t need much, and whatever you give will not only be appreciated it will be used to make the country stronger and more unified.
