Whittlesey Poppy Blitz is a volunteer-led group that creates poppy displays around our town for Remembrance. We're completely funded by donations, and every year we must fundraise to maintain and grow our displays.
Without the ongoing support of our community we wouldn’t be able to continue this much-loved display of respect. Can you help us?
Every year we aim to ‘Paint the town Poppy red’, in support of Remembrance and to put Whittlesey on the map. Year on year we have ambitions to grow our displays, introduce new and exciting pieces and extend our locations across the town. We hope this will also help to bring our community together.
Of course, money talks. With the kind donations we receive from local businesses and residents, our displays are kept at their very best, and we have also been able to donate money to local relevant charities and groups. This year we hope to help the Whittlesey Royal British Legion and the Whittlesey Detachment of the Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force.
There is a whole lot of work that goes in to preparing for our displays. Our creative crew gets started in January each year, knitting and crocheting new pieces to replace those that have seen better days. And that’s not all, with bigger and better features planned for every November.
