Help Antony Save His Sight – Urgent Cataract Surgery Needed

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Fiona Hughes, and I’m reaching out on behalf of Antony, an army veteran who has given so much to his country but now finds himself in a dire situation.

Antony lost his sight in his left eye due to stress-induced diabetes, and his right eye is now at risk due to a cataract that urgently needs removal. Without this surgery, he faces the heart breaking reality of complete blindness within weeks.

Antony's diabetes has already led to the amputation of his toes and the significant loss of his independence. Despite these challenges, Antony remains a positive, sociable, and much loved member of the Swansea Veterans Hub. However, the fear of losing his remaining vision has left him broken and desperate.

The Situation
Antony’s doctors have warned that the cataract in his right eye must be removed within 10 weeks, or it will harden and become inoperable, leaving him blind in both eyes. Unfortunately, the NHS waiting list for this surgery is 18 months to 4 years – far too long for Antony to wait.

The cost of private surgery at Sancta Maria Hospital in Swansea is £3,500. So far, we have raised £500 thanks to generous contributions from the Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club and individual donors, but we still have a considerable way to go.

How You Can Help
We’re reaching out to kind-hearted individuals to help us raise the remaining £2,700 needed to cover Antony’s surgery. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to securing Antony’s vision and improving his quality of life.

Why It Matters

Antony’s partner, a nurse, provides incredible support, but they cannot afford this surgery alone. Despite Antony's connection with various veterans’ organisations, none are able to provide funding for private surgery.

Your generosity will ensure Antony can retain his shadow vision and light perception, allowing him to remain an active and valued member of our community, and we have just 10 weeks to raise the money before he becomes completely blind.

Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read Antony’s story. Your kindness and support mean the world to Antony, his partner, and everyone who values his friendship and presence in our community.

If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to reach out. Let’s come together to help Antony see the brighter days ahead.
