HELP AFGHAN REFUGEE FAMILY SETTLE IN US
The man pictured above is Zafarullah, also known as Z. He is a husband, father, son and brother. He is a soldier, having fought evil in his home country of Afghanistan for nearly 20 years. I served with him from 2011-2013 and got to know him very well. He is a good man.
After my departure from AFG, we lost contact and I have worried about him and his family every day. He changed cell numbers often for security reasons and I had no way of tracking him down. He is a known entity to the enemy and he and his family were under constant threat of violence. Several of his team and family members have been killed in recent years solely based on their association with him.
Earlier this year, Z contacted me through a third party requesting assistance to leave the country. We immediately began working on his Special Immigrant Visa package. As you may know, this process is slow and tedious and it is still ongoing for him.
In recent weeks, a small group of friends and I have explored options to extract Z and his extra large family (17 including him) from the increasingly dangerous situation they were in. On 17 August, Z managed to gain entry into Hamid Karzai International Airport with his whole family. They were moved to a third country, where they are currently awaiting transportation to the United States in the near future.
Through a network of friends and individuals who knew Z in Afghanistan, we have secured guaranteed employment for him when he gets here. That employment, however, doesn't come with any advances for initial living setup and transition. The purpose of this fundraiser is so Z and his family can get settled in to life in America without immediately becoming dependent on federal or state funding.
