When COVID-19 started spreading in the United States, the CDC immediately recommended “social distancing” and staying home. However, for the 553,000 homeless Americans, staying home wasn’t an option.
People experiencing homelessness are older and sicker than the general population. Many have chronic health issues and, when combined with their high risk of mental disease and drug abuse, makes them one of the most vulnerable populations to the novel coronavirus.
Life’s Little Things is a non-profit organization that manufactures and distributes care packages for homeless people. Our kits include masks, hand sanitizer, socks, canned food, feminine hygiene products, and first aid products. The masks we distribute are made of cotton, reusable, and have space for a filter to minimize the risk of infection. These items will help promote hygiene in underserved communities and help prevent the spread of coronavirus among homeless populations. Our organization partners with several homeless shelters across Maricopa County to distribute the kits. We also cater to the specific needs of each organization we work with and alter our care packages to fit these needs. All donations will go towards creating these care packages, as well as supporting local homeless shelters. Help us give a chance to those living on the streets and lend a hand to those who need us most!
