Gregorio and Gabriel Lord College Fund

Beloved mother, friend and community member, Gail Lord, passed away suddenly on December 22. Her death was a shock and surprise to all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind two extraordinary teen sons - Gregorio (19) and Gabriel (17) - who are now facing the challenges of managing life without parents while still under the shock of this monumental loss.

Gail was one of my closest friends. When she called me last August, and told me about her multiple visits to the ER, I knew it was serious. What I didn't know was how fast the cancer would take her. Four months after our first conversation about her health problems, she was gone. Gail was one of the most loyal, loving friends I have ever known. Her life as a single parent was not easy. And it became even harder after her mother died from Covid. But Gail never ever ever complained. She touched many lives with her beautiful spirit. Those who were close to her are experiencing true heartbreak right now. But we are coming together for her boys.

Gail loved Gregorio and Gabriel more than she loved herself. She did everything for them. Friends and family - all of us - want to make sure the boys are taken care of for as long as possible. Their education is of utmost importance. Both have long planned to graduate from college, and we want to make sure they can apply and pay for any travel or application fees that may come with that. But they will need help with expenses to make that dream a reality.

Gabriel is in his senior year of high school, a pivotal time in a young person's life. He attends a college preparatory academy in Brooklyn where he is completing college applications for next fall. Gabriel is the kind of child who can do anything. He became a star basketball player almost overnight, and spent last summer taking multiple AP classes because, as Gail said, "he was bored." The burden of grief will be easier for him to handle if we can alleviate his fears about the future.

Gregorio could be his late mother’s twin - the sweetest, most loving boy. His grandmother was a colony caretaker of feral cats in Flatbush, and Gregorio inherited her love for animals. He connects with them in a way that all humans should connect with non-human life -- with respect, with joy and with the energy that we are not above them. All life is valuable and Gregorio embodies this concept. His soul is pure. Both he and his brother are such warm, sensitive young men. And very, very bright. Gregorio has been a student at the BMCC and would like to resume his studies as soon as he can. In the coming months, he will be caring for his younger brother and making sure that Gabriel graduates from high school and makes it to college.

We are hoping the community can mobilize to contribute to Gregorio and Gabriel's education as they navigate the unspeakable grief of losing their beloved mother while trying to keep their own lives on track. All funds will be overseen by the boys’ uncle.

Thank you for any donation you choose to make - large or small.

We ask you to pray for Gregorio and Gabriel during these difficult times.
