Geiger Family Shed and Barn Fire
Donation protected
Our parents, Bruce and Vicki Geiger, had just gotten back to their normal routine after our mom tested positive for COVID-19 about a month ago. She had just went to bed after working a midnight shift as a nurse when their lives went up in flames. Yesterday, May 6, there was a terrible fire that started in the shed. At this time we are not sure what caused the fire.
The shed is where the farm equipment is kept. A short list of what was in the shed includes: hay, straw, tools, welding equipment, lawn and garden equipment, 5 wagons, $50,000 in corn seed, the motorcycle, haybine, forage harvester, corn grinder, the camper, and many other family items that can't be replaced.
Within 45 minutes the whole shed was burnt to the ground, along with the chicken coops and red barn (thank god not the cattle barn). Along with the buildings and tools, they lost some chickens and our family dog Piper.
Along with the aching thought of the charred farm are the financial burdens this will bring. The shed contained equipment that represent a large portion of what the farm needs to operate and anything that is given will go towards replacing that and supporting our family. We understand that this is a hard time for everyone. Even if you can’t donate at this time, please show some love and share. Please send the Geiger family your prayers and thoughts. It is much needed as this is going to be a long, hard road ahead.
We are so thankful to the generosity the community is already showing in the form of hay, straw, and a helping hand. There really is nothing as strong as a farming community.
