I am writing this GoFundMe as Breanne, Amir's wife, to raise awareness for Amir's justice and to ask for financial help during this extremely difficult time. Amir is a dedicated MMA fighter, air duct technician, and beloved member of our community. He has always gone above and beyond to help others. Amir’s absence has left a huge void in our lives.
Amir was detained by ICE despite having entered the country legally through an official U.S. government program, holding a valid work permit, having paid all of his taxes, and having no criminal record. He has been held in a detention facility in Louisiana since November 4th and the circumstances of his detention have been incredibly distressing for our family. The legal process to fight for his release is complex and the fees are rapidly piling, putting a tremendous financial strain on us during an already difficult time.
Although Amir and I were legally married last summer, we had been planning and looking forward to celebrating with our friends and family. His detention has put our lives on hold and taken that special day from us, adding to the pain and uncertainty we are already facing.
Amir has lost thirty pounds since being detained. He has had weeks-long fevers and the conditions are inhumane. Amir has a valid path to citizenship through multiple avenues, making his continued detention cruel and unjustified. He is not eligible for bond. We have a habeas corpus petition pending in federal court challenging his detention, and we are currently racing against a removal order that would send Amir back to Russia, where he would face serious danger. We have appealed and continue to fight.
Any funds raised will go directly toward legal fees. Just to reiterate how tremendous the legal fees are, I have lost my apartment, my sanity, and my health. Amir deserves safety and freedom, not having to guess every morning if ICE will execute their forced removal. If you cannot donate, we ask that you share Amir's story. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us and fighting for Amir's freedom.
