On Saturday May 16th 2015 Eta Nu will host our 5th annual “Kappa Karnival,” which is our biggest philanthropy and fundraising event of the year. All of the money raised during Kappa Karnival goes towards the Lymelight Foundation.
Two families who have children infected with Lyme disease founded the Lymelight Foundation. One of those family members is also a member of our Eta Nu Chapter. Both families discovered, through their children’s struggle, the incredible expense of battling Lyme disease and the inability of many families to afford proper treatment. Unfortunately, most treatment plans for Chronic Lyme are not covered by insurance. Existing Lyme foundations mainly focus on funding research and awareness and not individual patients. However, LymeLight Foundation is uniquely dedicated to funding medical treatment for individuals with Lyme.
The Lymelight Foundation awards grants to young people age 3-25 years old. It is the goal and the hope of the Foundation that thorough these grants children can receive proper treatment and medications in their fight against Lyme disease while educating the general population about the disease.
Lyme Disease is estimated to be the second largest infectious disease in the United States. Also, the number of reported cases within the U.S. has doubled in the last decade and the infection rate has become larger than HIV. It is also the #1 vector borne illness in the North America and Europe. Worldwide, Lyme disease is rapidly spreading throughout Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Because of the personal connection we have with the foundation as well as the pressing concern and high treatment costs of Lyme disease, we are asking for your support and assistance in raising money and awareness to battle this disease. Grants are awarded in $10,000 dollar sums to patients and while this is ambitious, we have already raised close to $4500 and recognize that we will be helping to change a young person’s life with this kind donation.
