A surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States is straining the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) for hospitals across the country. Many healthcare professionals on the front lines still do not have access to the personal protective equipment they need to protect themselves.
DonatePPE is a volunteer group of engineers and doctors organized under the mission of protecting our healthcare workers on the front lines. Already we are working with healthcare providers in hotspots across the US-- NYC, LA, SF, New Orleans, and New Jersey -- to figure out where protective equipment is running low and how we can help hospitals gear healthcare workers with protective equipment so that they can safely do their job.
Our website, DonatePPE.org, is curated to help connect communities and organizations with healthcare workers who are seeing shortages in equipment, including the following:
- Surgical masks/N95 respirators: the virus is spread by droplet and aerosol-generating procedures. Masks are the foremost important tool in keeping healthcare workers safe.
- Face shields: masks and respirators can be used until soiled or damaged. Faceshields help protect the integrity of masks by acting as an easy-to-clean barrier to bodily fluids, either from direct spray from the front or from droplets settling from above.
- Goggles: sealed eye protection is necessary for preventing virus-transmission in settings where face-shields are unavailable.
- Disinfecting wipes: viruses can persist on surfaces for several days. Respiratory therapists, nurses, and doctors go through disinfecting wipes quickly, for sterilizing PPE and equipment to work surfaces and patient rooms.
- Gowns and Shoe Covers: an oftentimes overlooked mode of transmission is by our clothes. These lower the risk of spreading the virus from patient to patient via the less obvious contamination of scrubs and apparel.
We want to be as transparent as possible with where these funds go: your donation will go directly to the purchasing and distribution of personal protective equipment for our healthcare heroes on the front lines. I will be providing weekly updates to keep the team informed on our progress.

- 60 procedural masks
- 250 bouffants/head covering
- 125 pairs of nitrile gloves
- 100 pairs of shoe covers
- 16 isolation gowns
- 5 face shields

I'm excited to announce that Donate PPE is partnering with Product Pub, a 501c3 non-profit organization focused on empowering professionals with global perspectives and product minds, and CMAIN, a 501c3 charity NPO, focused on disaster relief. We have decided to join forces with Product Pub and CMAIN because our organizations have very complementary skill sets.
Product Pub brings a lot of experience with supply chain management and procurement from China. By partnering with Product Pub, we are able to tap into the Alibaba network in China, which is very helpful in identifying and vetting suppliers. CMAIN has a great track record and experience in raising large amounts of funding for disaster relief efforts. By partnering with CMAIN, we are able to centralize our fundraising efforts and increase efficiency through company matching. Donate PPE has an extensive network of corporate and NPO partners who can help distribute PPE to hospitals in hotspots across the country. With this partnership, we can fundraise more effectively, identify suppliers quicker, and increase our purchasing power which leads to better prices. This partnership allows each organization to focus on what they do best, and together, we can maximize our overall impact.
