Dave's Fight for Life

Donation protected
Let me tell you about a man named Dave Raye.

He is a husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, and beloved friend to many. Anyone who knows him would tell you, he is second to none and, right now, he needs your help. Dave has been diagnosed with end-stage liver failure and kidney disease, derived from complications of a life-changing accident he experienced 17 years ago. His team of medical professionals have only given him at worst, months to live, and at best, a couple of years. Dave is in desperate need of a liver and kidney transplant and, thankfully, they are currently matching with donors and is approved for these transplants. However, this all comes at a price.

We understand that this year, 2020, has brought tragedy and uncertainty to many families. Dave and his loved ones would never have guessed that one trip to the emergency room in September of 2019 would lead them on a roller coaster of unending medical appointments, countless procedures, and overwhelming bills.

Not only that, Dave has dealt with an array of worsening complications such as hepatic encephalopathy which, at the moment, has impacted his ability to work as a truck driver. To add on top of his deteriorating liver failure and kidney disease, he must have a left and right heart catheterization procedure AND a spinal fusion. Both are needed to increase the success rate of the liver and kidney transplants. In short, Dave will have 4 major, life-changing surgeries within a three to six month time-frame. This will not be an easy challenge for him or his family.

As a result, Dave will be unable to return to work or even drive for roughly six months or longer. This, of course, weighs heavily on Dave since he is the primary provider for his family. The exact cost of these future hospitalizations, medications, and procedures is unknown to us at this time.

We ask that you put yourself in Dave’s shoes and those of his loved ones since the costs of staying alive is placing such a heavy burden. This is why we need YOUR help.

Pictured above is Dave with Diane, his lovely wife of eleven years. When asked about Dave and her feelings for why we are setting up this fundraiser she stated: “He is the love of my life, my partner, and my everything. We still have so much life to live together. We want to travel and watch our children and grandchildren grow up. I want to grow old with him.”

The pictures above are Dave with his children and grandchildren. They refer to him as the most loving, generous, and strong-willed man they know. His eldest daughter described him beautifully: “Dad is a hard-working man with a bleeding heart for anyone having a hard time. He’s always willing to drop whatever he is doing to go help someone. He regularly goes above and beyond for the people he loves and a total stranger. He may look tough with his gruff voice and tattoos, but he’s a big softie. He was dealt a rough hand but he’s done the best he knows how to build a life for himself.”

Now, you’ve been given just a short snapshot into who Dave is and the current mental, physical, emotional and financial challenges he and his family are facing. The money raised will help cover living and medical expenses associated with Dave’s fight to live a longer, healthier life. Like Diane said, Dave still has so much life to live and for them to live it together. You can help them make that a reality by lifting some of the burden involved with his medical care. Please know any amount, big or small, is truly appreciated. Dave and his family will forever be grateful for your kindness and generosity.

We will keep this page updated as much as possible. Until then, hug your loved ones a little tighter for you never know what tomorrow brings.

Thank you.
