Cohen Daly- Tumor fight -Journey of a Superstar

Donation protected
Cohen Daly is a bubbly, loving 12 yr old boy who hates to be the centre of attention, loves video games, anime, drumming and has grown up supporting his older brother. Sadly 2020 decided it was Cohen’s time to be in the spotlight in one of the worst ways imaginable. On the 31st of December, Cohen was revealed to have a tumour beneath his knee on his left leg. At the time of discovery it was 12.2cm in size and believed to be malignant. After further testing it was revealed that not only was it cancerous, it had also spread to his lungs with over 15 individual tumours appearing there. Cohen was found to have Osteosarcoma after further testing, a Bone Cancer which commonly affects adolescents and young adults. The pain caused is commonly disregarded as growing pains, this is sadly exactly what happened to Cohen. After 8 months of reporting pain and 3 separate doctors visits an Xray was finally arranged and the tumour discovered.

What was meant to be a new year to escape the year that was 2020, began off even worse than 2020 did and even worse than how 2020 ended for Cohen and his family.

After 3 weeks of testing and preparation Cohen went in for his first stint of chemotherapy on the 18th. This journey will take till the end of July if there are no complications. He will be having surgery hopefully at the beginning of April ( we are hoping he can celebrate his 13th birthday before surgery). He maintains his smiles and positivity and stays concerned for his family but the treatment and events have been unimaginably hard for him and his family.

Cohen lives on the Central Coast with both parents and his older brother, Cooper, however he has to travel regularly down to Westmead Children's Hospital each week. Whilst Cohen is down there multiple family members have to rotate themselves around to try and assist with caring for the family. This constant travel is expensive and stressful for all involved.

The family is struggling under the ridiculous pressure of this trying time. His unbelievably dedicated mother Ellicia, lost her job due to her inability to provide stable work hours, thanks to the rotating schedule of his chemotherapy and her refusal to leave her child to this struggle without her there. Her work was extremely supportive and has helped her more than anyone imagined however just due to the conflict of timing they were unable to keep her on. Michael, Cohen’s diligent father is working full time as a mechanic to pay the bills to the best of his abilities however expenses have started to stack up and the loss of income is being felt. This Gofundme is there to help relieve some of the stress of travel expenses, the family homes mortgage and hopefully providing Cohen with items he needs to help his recovery and journey through Chemotherapy.

Hi, this is Tammy. Cohen is my beloved nephew and Ellicia my sister. All of us are doing what we can to support the family however it is hard to manage even with the extra hands, currently we are asking Cohen’s Grandmother to come all the way down from Copmanhurst (near Grafton) to help care for Cooper, Cohen’s brother who has Autism and needs to be able to make appointments, be cared for properly and make sure that he can get through schooling and still find support at home.

I’m Saxon, Cohen’s biggest and ugliest cousin. This trial which has been forced upon my cousin is unimaginable and has left many of us feeling helpless. Whilst my mother, Tammy, and my grandparents, David and Trisha, are doing all they can, the strain and stress of this time is starting to accumulate as there is only so much we can do. I’ve done what I can so far and have many things planned to try and help Cohen, however this GoFundMe will be something which will allow Ellicia and Mick to see that they are not alone and that we all are doing what we can to help them. Because if anyone deserves this help it is them. They are always so caring and loving, helping my siblings and I develop into the people we are today and helping my Mum through all the challenges life has thrown at her. If you have the time or the money please think about helping out these wonderful people and their fantastic son, Cohen, who doesn’t deserve what is happening to him.
