For generations The Catskill Mountains of upstate New York have been home to a staggering number of musicians, artists and unique personalities. This is an area that appreciates and honors creativity---from the legendary music vortex of Woodstock NY to the hills and hollows that bred legends like Rip Van Winkle.
Over the past decade, Catskill Cabaradio, a quarterly 90-minute live radio show, has given voice to 100’s of regional musicians, artists, storytellers, poets, small business owners and non-profit stakeholders.
Past guests have included Catskill residents and nationally known personalities, including jazz bassist Gary Peacock, poets Ed Sanders and Janine Pommy Vega, storytellers Gioia Timpanelli and 'Grandma' Avis Gebert, humorist Jim Mullen and dozens of regional business owners, cultural organizations, historians, farmers, film makers and an assortment of colorful characters.
Cabaradio also encourages young artists, as each show presents a promising youth performer. Past guests include Connor Kennedy, The Percussion Orchestra of Kingston (POOK) and violin prodigy Miriam Rose Silver-Altman.
Catskill Cabaradio plays a vital role in supporting and uniting the remote rural hamlets of the Catskill Mountains. It is the signature event of the Pine Hill Community Center and draws a house audience of more than 100 for each show. Additionally, Catskill Cabaradio is simulcast on WIOX Community Radio to a worldwide audience on radio and the web.
We need your support to keep Catskill Cabaradio going. In this difficult time for funding for the arts as well as the Center's perennial challenges with staffing and volunteers, there is a $3,000 shortfall for the production of the three remaining 2018 shows. Your contribution will go directly to producing these shows. Our ultimate goal is $8,000. That would create a cushion covering future lapses in grant funding. The show must go on!
