5 years ago, in a small place in the upper Alentejo, a group of families got together with the aim of educating their children in contact with nature. The partnership with the Municipality of Marvão made it possible to enjoy and take care of a charming farm on about 8 hectares. This is how Bosque Escola Avelãs was born.

This inclusive community project that embraces all families, regardless of their financial capacity, requires, on the one hand, great creativity in budget management, and on the other hand, it allows to bring and welcome new families to this depopulated and

extremely aged region of the interior. Right now, the biggest challenge for us, to continue to grow and welcome more children, is to find a space of physical refuge and warmth in the heart of the forest.

We dream of a space that maximizes children's immersion in Nature and minimizes the impact on the farm's landscape. Thus, the idea arose of building a geodome with about 40m2 so that the children of Bosque Escola Avelãs can store their materials and be comfortable studying, especially on days when the weather conditions require it.

If children don't grow up knowing about nature and appreciating it,

they will not understand it.

And if they don't understand it, they won't protect it.

And if they don't protect it, who will?

ABOUT US

More and more people are aware of the positive impact of being outdoors on our mental and physical health. Over the past decade, the term Nature Deficit Disorder has become popular, bringing the idea that humans, especially children, are spending less and less time outdoors, and that this shift results in a wide range of problems; behavioral and emotional. Forest schools are springing up across the country.

Bosque Escola Avelãs (BEA) is a community project, founded in 2017, located in Marvão and aimed at children from 3 to 12 years old. It is an outdoor education project, centred on the child, in a context of nature and following the principles of the Forest School.

The BEA takes place at Quinta das Avelãs, a space that combines the forest in its natural, wild and free aspect with the farm and the permaculture principles of caring for the land, caring for people and caring for the future.

Bosque Escola's activity responds to the needs of local families and allows the establishment of new families in the region.

BEA's pedagogic activities for preschool and primary-age children promote free play and art as conductors of discovery of nature and learning, and support the concepts of the invisible school and nature as a teacher. These activities provide children with

regular opportunities to build confidence through hands-on learning in a forest environment. Alongside school content (literacy, mathematics, foreign languages, ...), this curriculum covers topics from the natural world such as flora and fauna, emotional

skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution, risk management and personal care, communication, self-esteem, food and hygiene.

Há 5 anos atrás, num pequeno lugar no alto Alentejo, um grupo de famílias uniu-se com o intuito de educar as suas crianças em contacto com a natureza. A parceria com a Câmara Municipal de Marvão permitiu desde logo desfrutar e cuidar de uma encantadora quinta com cerca de 8 hectares.

Este projeto comunitário pretende ser inclusivo e abraçar todas as familias independentemente da sua capacidade financeira, o que, por um lado exige grande criatividade na gestão do orçamento, e por outro, permite trazer e acolher novas famílias para esta região do interior.

Neste momento o maior desafio, para continuarmos a crescer e acolher mais crianças, é encontrar um espaço de refúgio físico e aconchego no coração do bosque.

Sonhamos um espaço que maximize a imersão das crianças na Natureza e minimize o impacto na paisagem da quinta. Assim, surgiu a ideia de construir um geodome com cerca de 40m2 para que as crianças do Bosque Escola Avelãs possam guardar os seus materiais e estar confortáveis a estudar, sobretudo nos dias em que as condições climatéricas assim o exigem.

Cada vez mais pessoas estão cientes do impacto positivo de estar ao ar livre na nossa saúde mental e física. Desde a última década o termo transtorno de déficit de natureza tornou-se popular, trazendo a ideia de que os seres humanos, principalmente as crianças, estão a passar cada vez menos tempo ao ar livre, e que essa mudança resulta numa ampla gama de problemas comportamentais e emocionais. Escolas da floresta estão a surgir por todo o país.

O Bosque Escola Avelãs (BEA) é um projeto comunitário, fundado em 2017, localizado em Marvão e dirigido a crianças dos 3 aos 12 anos. É um projeto de educação ao ar livre, centrado na criança, em contexto de natureza e seguindo os princípios da Forest School.

O BEA acontece na Quinta das Avelãs, um espaço que combina a floresta, na sua vertente natural, selvagem e livre; com a quinta e os princípios da permacultura de cuidar da terra, cuidar das pessoas e cuidar do futuro.

A atividade do Bosque Escola responde às necessidades das famílias locais e permite o estabelecimento de novas famílias na região.

As atividades pedagógicas do BEA para crianças em idade pré-primária e primária promovem o jogo livre e a arte como fios condutores de descoberta da natureza e da aprendizagem com aproximação aos conceitos de escola invisível e da natureza como professora. Essas atividades oferecem às crianças oportunidades regulares para desenvolver a confiança por via de uma aprendizagem prática num ambiente de floresta. A par dos conteúdos escolares (literacia, matemática, línguas estrangeiras, …), este currículo abrange tópicos do mundo natural como flora e fauna, habilidades emocionais, tais como, trabalho em equipa, resolução de conflitos, gestão de riscos e ainda, cuidados a nível pessoal, como cuidar da comunicação, da autoestima, alimentação e higiene.
