Build a Safe Haven for Cats & Protect Hawaii's Wildlife

Help Us Build a Safe Haven for Cats — and Protect Hawaii’s Wildlife

Goal: $30,000 for Cat-Proof Fencing & Secure Entry Gate

Imagine a place where rescued cats roam safely through lush jungle gardens—while endangered native species are protected from harm. At Volcano Cat Sanctuary, we are building that dream right here in Hawaii, and we urgently need your help.

We’re raising $30,000 to build cat-proof perimeter fencing and a secure front gate around our three-acre sanctuary. We have already purchased the three acres of land in Volcano, HI, and have cleared the first acre. We are now ready to build our first fenced-in enclosure for the cats, and we need your help! This is the most important investment we can make to ensure our cats are safe—and to protect Hawaii’s fragile native wildlife from free-roaming predators.

Why This Matters:

Hawaii’s Cat Crisis: Thousands of cats across the islands are abandoned, sick, or suffering—yet many are unadoptable due to age, injury, or special needs. Many Hawaii residents end up having to leave the island or move due to health issues or various other problems, and their pets have nowhere to go. There are also many colonies of stray and abandoned cats across the islands, and these cats often do not receive appropriate medical care or attention and pose a risk to native habitats.

Wildlife at Risk: Free-roaming cats are a known threat to Hawaiian seabirds, native forest birds, and even endangered monk seals.

Our Solution: Volcano Cat Sanctuary offers a permanent, enriched, and secure home for cats who have nowhere else to go—and we do it in harmony with nature.

How You’ll Help:

Your donation will go directly toward:

Installing cat-proof fencing to keep cats safely inside and wildlife out

Building a secure entry gate for staff, volunteers, and future visitors

Protecting Hawaii’s environment while saving the lives of vulnerable cats

What Makes Us Different:

A Sanctuary with a Purpose: We don’t just rescue cats—we educate, advocate, and protect.

Lifetime Care: We provide medical care, enrichment, and forever homes to cats no one else can take in.

Ethical & Sustainable: We work closely with local veterinarians and conservation groups to reduce feral cat populations through TNR (trap-neuter-return) and community engagement.

Be a Part of the Solution:

By donating, you’re helping us build the walls that protect lives—both feline and wild. Every dollar brings us one step closer to creating a model sanctuary that reflects the values of compassion, coexistence, and ecological stewardship.

Whether you give $5 or $500, your support makes a direct impact. And if you can’t give right now, sharing our campaign is a powerful way to help. We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit, so all of your donations are tax deductible.

Donations of $1000 or more will get a special plaque on our wall of donors, recognizing your support and contributions.
Donations of $500 or more will get a special plaque on a cat house, recognizing your generosity and benevolence.
Donations of $50 or more will get to name a kitten, recognizing your charity and kindliness.

Let’s build something beautiful—together.

A word from our Founder:
I began rescuing cats on Hawai'i Island eleven years ago, when I found two stray kittens on the side of the highway. Always an animal lover, I began volunteering at various animal rescue organizations and quickly realized that Hawaii has a massive problem with overpopulation of cats. The idea for a cat sanctuary began as I watched person after person begging for help rehoming their cats, but finding that there was no place for them to go. I started dreaming of a sanctuary where cats could safely live out their lives, or be held until they found their next homes, and eventually the Volcano Cat Sanctuary was formed. We have rescued and rehomed over 200 cats in our first year as a non-profit, and your donations will help make our ultimate dream of a cat sanctuary come true. Thank you for supporting our work and here's to protecting all of Hawaii's precious beings and resources.
