Hi, I’m Brenda, a middle school science teacher and department lead passionate about helping students see science as real, relevant, and connected to their everyday lives. I create inquiry-based learning experiences where students ask questions, analyze data, and explore how science shapes the world around them. I also work with fellow educators to strengthen science instruction and support students in developing critical thinking skills for future STEM opportunities.

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected to participate in the Amazon Research Initiative for Educators (ARIE)! This unique opportunity will allow me to take part in field-based research in the Amazon rainforest, where I’ll study biodiversity, ecosystem interactions, agriculture, climate change, and human impact alongside working scientists. This experience will have a direct impact on my students. I plan to bring back real-world data, authentic research practices, and engaging phenomena to design hands-on lessons that show students how science truly works. I’m especially excited to explore connections between environmental science and agriculture, helping students understand how ecosystems, food systems, and human activity are interconnected. I also hope to connect my students with scientists and collaborate with a classroom in Texas to expand their learning beyond our school.
