Hello beautiful people! My name is Erica Hummer, and I am a self-taught artist specializing in stippling, hyperrealism, and pointillism with comic book paper. If you’re seeing this, chances are we’ve crossed paths at some point. If this is our first encounter, it’s nice to meet you! Let me give you a quick rundown on who I am, what I am about, and what I am trying to do.
Whether you’ve known me for a long time or we just met, there are probably a few things you know about me. I am a creative, I am passionate, I have a big heart and wear it on my sleeve.
For the past 15 years, I have been perfecting my skill in the rare art form of stippling. I spend hundreds of hours on my hyperrealistic drawings, building up pin-sized dots of ink on paper. My largest stippled piece is a life-size portrait of Kobe Bryant that took 556 hours to complete. Last year, I started to use dots in a different way, hole-punching comic book paper and arranging the dots on colorful canvases to create larger images. This form of pointillism has captured the attention of local businesses and individuals, leading to commissions and sales. I am excited to keep the momentum going.
Being an artist in today’s climate, particularly living in Central Pennsylvania has been incredibly challenging. While it has been a great place to live, It is not a great market for selling original art or commissions. While finding ways to share my artwork, I recently applied to and was accepted into the 2025 Atlanta Comic Con! This is a pivotal moment that will boost my career to the next level and deliver an even broader national following. The support from friends, family, and supporters of the arts will totally transform my circumstances and give me the financial fuel needed to continue pursuing my dream.
This will be my first ever comic con in a city known for its thriving art scene. Over 90,000 people attend the convention each year, giving me a huge opportunity to show and sell my work. My goal is to sell 8-10 canvases, 40-50 hand-cut comic originals and a lot of prints. Having this start-up fund for my business will enable me to make strategic moves that will set me up for success in this first major showing of my comic book art and help me use that momentum in this new chapter of my art career.
I believe deeply in the power of art, its ability to heal, and its capacity to bring people together. I have big plans for the future that include bringing more art to the community and giving artists tools and resources to make their own dreams come true. With your help, I can do this and do it well.
