We are raising money to produce the play Bent by Martin Sherman at Triskelion Arts in NYC starring Wil Bethmann*, Joshua Popa*, Michael Calciano, Conor Hamill*, Pascal Portney and Steve Coulter*.

Produced and directed by Emma Coulter with co-producers Alex Bodine and Kira Geiger this tragic love story set in Nazi Germany, follows the journey of Max (Wil Bethmann), a young gay man from Berlin who learns to accept himself and to love in the face of horrific and impossible odds.

One of the most significant plays of its time, Bent helped shed light on the widely untold history of the persecution of homosexuals during the Holocaust. The significance of Bent is more important than ever considering the recent resurgence of neo-facist extremism around the world.

Most of the current cast and creative team presented a version of the play in 2015 as part of UNCSA’s “Keys to the Kingdom.” One of the primary objectives of “Keys to the Kingdom” is to empower UNCSA alumni to become generative producing artists. Now, we want to bring it back to life fully realized following its successful run in NC.

We are working hard to honor this story by making it as competitive as possible in such a saturated market. This includes full design elements and collaborating with a fierce, experienced producing team. All money raised will be paying for our performance space, the Muriel Schulman Theatre at Triskelion Arts in Greenpoint, BK, rehearsal space, the rights to the show, the set, lights and costumes as well as fees for all creative team (cast included).

Your donation will not only support the creation of art which will share a widely untold story of the underrepresented LGBTQ community but a portion of our production’s ticket sales will go to the Ali Forney Center, an organization that serves homeless LGBTQ youth in the New York City area.

We'd like to give back as a way to say thank you for your generosity!

Emma Coulter, Alex Bodine, Kira Geiger and the cast and crew
