Aylsham Parish Church gives swifts a home

Aylsham Swift Group has been given a fantastic opportunity by the Parish Church to increase the number of homes for swifts in the town. We have permission to construct swift nesting boxes behind the louvres in the belfry tower. This has been successful in other churches around the country and we are part of a project involving several churches in Norwich. Swifts make no mess, are undisturbed by ringing of the bells and the boxes will be completely invisible from the outside.

Our church nesting boxes will be made by members of Aylsham Men’s Shed. We need to raise funds for materials, including an audio system to play swift calls to attract the birds into their new homes. We also want to buy some educational materials for use on guided walks and school visits.

An enormous thank you to everyone who donated to our last fundraiser. That money has been given to Aylsham Men’s Shed to build swift nesting boxes for sale to Aylsham residents.
