Since the lockdown the Family Centre have continued to offer & provide our Counselling Service, the Mayo Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service & Flourish-our Social Prescribing Service remotely to existing and new clients. The Family Centre is funded by the Health Service Executive, Tusla-Child & Family Agency & the Archdiocese of Tuam. These organisations have supported us from the beginning in 1994 which is a great testament to the work of the centre and all the services we provide to the community of Mayo and the surrounding areas. These funds are mainly for staff salaries.

From the very beginning we had other funding streams like the Archdiocese of Tuam Annual Church Collection every May which yielded us €49,000 in 2019.Due to the restrictions this couldn’t go ahead this month.

Our counselling service is the core of the centre, last year we took in €49,000 and we now estimate we will be down to €19,000 this year. There is a charge for counselling on a sliding scale. Where financial circumstances are problematic, this fee can be negotiated as appropriate. The lack of finance should not deter anyone from seeking counselling at the Family Centre. Our Mayo Suicide Liaison Bereavement Service is free of charge.

Most people are familiar with our Educational Programmes, each year we have offered over 60 courses on a range of topics that are relevant to all. Last year we took in €26,000 and while we don’t make a profit on the courses, this money allows us to cover the costs of running the programme. We also receive donations from members of the public, we rent rooms and all that goes towards the running costs of the centre.

Last week, we looked at our funding streams and all the above mentioned are greatly reduced or completely gone  this year and we estimate  a loss of €100,000.

The Family Centre have supported the community of Mayo and the surrounding areas for 26 years and now we’re asking you  to support us.

So our target is €100,000 and we’re asking those who used the many services of the Family Centre over the years to consider giving us a donation.

We’re asking all of you that have previously given to our annual church collection to do so again this year.

Finally if you’re not familiar with the services of the Family Centre, check us out on Facebook @tfccastlebar and on our website at www.thefamilycentre.com   and if you like what we do help us out. We will make every euro count.
