Help my friend Martha with the loss of her love!

I am writing to get support for my dearest friend Martha Tomarin. Her husband, Cary, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 12th. He was the love of her life, and she is overwhelmed with grief and sadness. She and Cary had been married just shy of 50 years and have a love story that is hard to believe. They met on May 2nd, 1971, in Reykjavik, Iceland. She was a shy, young International Christian exchange student from Iowa. Cary was a boisterous and hilarious young Jewish man from Cincinnati, with a free stopover in Iceland after backpacking across Europe. It was love at first sight.

But Martha’s mother in Iowa did not approve of Cary being a Jew, and disowned her when they eloped. But despite that rejection, the love of these two made them inseparable throughout their 49 years of marriage. Cary was the most incredible human being, and boy did he love his wife. But I am very worried about Martha right now.

Cary & Martha had both been very ill this past year. He came out of one of his rehab stays in October by ambulance with massive blood loss. He also had been physically abused at the nursing home, with a huge gash on his arm and both feet and toenails torn up. Martha will never get over the trauma of seeing him like that. Then, 5 days after he arrived in the ER Martha had emergency heart surgery, with two arteries almost completely blocked. Cary was on the same floor. She could not tell him what had happened to her because he was so sick.

Cary was admitted to the hospital again at Thanksgiving, and upon leaving the hospital Martha fell, breaking her big toe and hand. When he came home from the hospital on 12/5, he was in a hospital bed because Martha had a cast on her hand.

With all of this going on, Martha did not plan for a death. She has no life insurance, and no funds for funeral expenses. She also now has all of the medical expense copays incurred last year from both Cary’s and her multiple hospitalizations and emergency room visits throughout the year. The amount she owes is staggering.

Martha Tomarin is one of the best people I have ever known, and the caring and love she gave to her precious Cary was not to be believed. I want to make sure she has the money for funeral expenses and additional medical bills.

Please help her with whatever you can if you are able. No amount is too small. But if you are unable to help financially, your prayers will be so appreciated.
