Trip to Edinburgh, Scotland to Perform

Donation protected
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a group of 16 to attend the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Every year in August hundreds of theatrical venues in historic Edinburgh, Scotland, open up their doors to thousands of performers and participants in what has become the largest arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Those performers and participants travel from 60 countries worldwide and include recognizable big names of the performing arts, as well as unknown artists looking to build their careers and students who are just beginning to refine their talents. The festival caters to everyone and includes classical, musical, physical and experimental theatre, comedy, dance, cabaret, children's shows, opera, music, spoken word, street performance, exhibitions and other events that thoroughly explore the scope and depths of theater in the world today.

This year, Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, SC has been invited to represent Horry County Schools as well as the state of South Carolina at the Festival Fringe. Under the direction of Wayne Canady, a small group of our most talented students will perform on one of the Fringe stages at The Church Hill Theatre, and will support Mr. Canady as he accepts the 2014 Director's Award.

To begin to describe the scope of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, last year's event came to a three-week end after 45,464 performances of 2,871 shows. An estimated 1,943,493 tickets were issued for shows and events in 273 venues across the city, reflecting the growing popularity and cultural significance of "The Fringe." Amazingly, the Fringe invites all participants to view any of its nearly 2,900 different shows at no additional cost. A plethora of highly regarded awards are also given at the festival by a wide range of organizations, including new awards this year for children's theater. The festival celebrates the best of new theater and rewards innovation by showcasing more than fifty percent of the events as premier performances of new works by writers from around the world. The cost is $6,500.00 per person, and we will be taking 16 in our group.

We ask for your support in our historic quest to reach the Fringe this summer, proudly representing our fine arts department, our school, and the wonderful community of family and friends that fill these seats at each production. Won't you help us?  We have raised some of the cost of the trip ourselves, but are still short of the money that is needed. Please consider making a donation of any amount, large or small, any donation is greatly appreciated.
