Joe & Pam go to BurningMan 2015!

We all have the bucket list of things we want to do before we die, right? Well, for as long as I can remember, the number one thing on my wife and my list has been to attend Burning Man. In fact, it’s about the only thing on our list. However, because of the nature of our disabilities (entirely physical, but significant) and the nature of the event itself, our ability to make this a reality has always seemed to be but a wistful dream. In recent years, however, as the festival has gradually become more disability friendly and accessible in general (in addition to other factors such as mobility device technology advancements), we’ve begun to seriously consider the possibility that we might be able to make this happen after all. In fact, we’ve recently been toying with the idea of figuring out a way to get to Burning Man in 2017 for our 25th wedding anniversary. We never had a real honeymoon when we got married (or since) and so we decided that we would finally do our honeymoon on our 25th anniversary and make it something spectacular… and Burning Man certainly fits that definition, LOL… :-)

But guess what? The universe apparently wants us to do it sooner than 2017… It looks like it wants us to do it in 2015! It has recently come to our attention that we actually have a connection to the inner circles of burners and, thus, access to the actual resources (other than financial) that are necessary to make this a viable reality. In short, we’ve been presented with an opportunity that’s too good to pass up. We must make this happen in 2015!

However, moving up the timeline for this sort of adventure means that we have far less time to gather the necessary financial resources to pull this off. Given the nature of our disabilities, mine in particular, we will undoubtedly have expenses involved in doing this that go far beyond those of the average burner. Not only will we need to pay for tickets for ourselves and our helpers (as well as all the other general expenses for say 4 people to attend burning man), but we will also need to rent a sizable RV for us and our crew, as well as purchase and equip the necessary mobility devices to make this viable for us. All that will have a pretty hefty price tag that we simply aren’t prepared to handle this year. Hence, on the advice of our burner friends, we are turning to crowdfunding to make this a reality. I have intentionally set the bar pretty high for this venture here, but I think it’s a pretty reasonable guesstimate of what we will need to pull this off.

Now, if you’ve gotten to this point, you surely must be interested in seeing us succeed in this long-held dream of ours… We know that this will be an absolutely life transforming experience for us. Can you contribute a few bucks to help make this happen? You will have our sincerest gratitude!

If you would like to know more about us and the kind of people we are, feel free to look us up and friend us on Facebook (Joe VanderVeer and Pamela Delcore VanderVeer).

In any event, thank you for taking the time to read all this… ;-)
