Hello
Maks is a 10 and a half year old Male Doberman, his name is Maks and he has been through a lot, about 5 years ago he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, he was given 4 month to live! With no cure available!
But he was strong and he is still here today! I am not too sure how that happened because we were told that it's the worst type of cancer a canine can have!
We followed our hearts and spent a crazy amount of money which we are still trying to pay back but every penny spent was totally worth it because our boy is still with us.The reason I am asking for your help today is because recently Maks has been diagnosed with Heart Failure! And again we were advised that there is no cure!
We honestly thought that 3 weeks ago we were going to loose him!
It all started with a cough which we were in the process of trying to figure out with our vet, but that Saturday we knew something was really wrong just by the look in his eyes, his stomach filled up with liquid and tripled in size, he had an extremely hard time breathing and he refused to sit or lie down, he was hiding from us in the only place which he never goes in our home, the bathroom! his head would poke out every few minutes and we knew we had no choice but to take him to emergency!

We were advised in emergency that he wasn't going to survive the weekend and they wanted to keep him there!
Our hearts were breaking for Maks and we made a decision that if they were wanting to keep him there that the only way we would allow that was if one of us could stay with him! Which they denied, so the only option we were left with was to take him back home. The emergency did not want to give him anything except for Diuretics because we refused to let him stay there and I shared my disappointment with them, as well as the fact that they have been no help at all! Just like I would never leave my child or family member with a bunch of strangers over night i would not do that with Maks! After a very emotional discussion with the vet on duty, she agreed to give him Vetmedin for his heart but that was not easy to get from her and she left us with one comment...which was "Don't bother calling your vet, because he will not survive until Monday!".
The emergency vet actually contacted our vet after we left there and told her that we were very defensive and that because of that he would not survive, our vet was away that weekend but that same night she called us from wherever she was to check in.
That was the longest night of my life, I stayed up the entire night and watched Maks breath, as i had him propped up so that he could get some rest.
He was fainting when we came back home and falling into the walls because he had no energy left probably from trying to breath!

So Maks is still here!
But he is on THREE different medications currently.
( Diuretics, Vetmedin and Benezaptil!)

Due to his condition I cannot work as I have to administer his medication every couple of hours!
We are finding it very difficult on a single income to be able to cover all of his medical bills! The medication cost $500.00 a month on top of his vet visits!

If you are able to help at all we would greatly appreciate it!
Maks is a trooper, and as long as he is happy and comfortable I will try everything to keep him that way! Just as I would if it was a family member or a friend!
