Special Needs Education in TZ

Donation protected
A child with intellectual or physical challenges in Tanzania is unlikely to reach her potential for growth and self-sufficiency due to a severe lack of resources and tailored educational opportunities.

My friend Mwalimu Bekko wants to do something about that, but he needs your help. Bekko has been teaching in Tanzania for 13 years -- 10 years in primary school and 3 in secondary school, which is where I met him in 2011. He is a great educator with a passion for Psychology.

Mwalimu Bekko is looking for help paying his tuition for a masters program in Special Needs Education at Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University in Tanga, Tanzania. He sent me a copy of his admissions letter and official financial information, and promises to keep me and any interested donors updated about his academic status, grades, activities, and successes as he pursues the degree. I am in touch with the school, and will be depositing the donations directly into the tuition account. This is a really great opportunity to empower a man who wants to do something to help kids that are far too often overlooked by Tanzania's education system.

Here is Mwalimu Bekko's explanation of why he wants to study special education:
"The intention of pursuing this programme is for me aquire knowledge and understand well challenges facing disabled students in our country. I am expecting to use this knowledge to empower them to be self-reliant in their daily activities and become better individuals than before. I am also planning to form a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that will act as empowering agent in areas such as education service and advocacy."

As you can tell, my friend Mwalmu Bekko is incredible passionate and committed to this cause. Those of us who work in international development know that the world is FULL of big-hearted and hard-working people like Mwalimu Bekko, but without resources to act on their passion, these movers and shakers can only move and shake so far.

Help Mwalimu Bekko achieve his dream of helping kids with special needs in Tanzania!
