Help Me Get a Service Dog!

Donation protected

Hi! My name is Elijah Levi Burton and I need to adopt a service dog! I am 22, I live in Alabama, I'm a transman, I am asexual, disabled, neuroatypical, and going through a tough divorce and very hard financial times, as I am unemployed.

Why do I need a service dog, you ask? Well, let me explain.

I'm sick. Not just in the head, I'm sick all over. I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, Hypothyroidism, Osteoarthrits, Fobromyalgia, IBS, Autism, mild Epilepsy, Bipolar NOS, OCD, anorexia, and generalized anxiety disorder. I have a history of panic attacks, overstimulation, shaking room seizures, staring spells, suicide attempts, self harm, binging, purging, impulsive life ruining behaviours, an inability to walk or run for long periods of time, insomnia, hypersomnia, unbearable musculoskeltal pain, high blood pressure, dehydration, rapid weight fluctuation, depression so crippling I can't get out of bed for days, and substance abuse. Long list, huh? And I'm sure that's not even everything.

My therapist and GP recommended I get a service animal, and I think a dog is the best choice. An adopted dog, from a shelter. I may even get a dog who is also neuroatypical and disabled, so we can care for each other.

The dog will not only help me when I'm bedridden by bringing me my pills, books, phone, blankets, etc; it will also provide emotional support. I can pet and snuggle it if I have an anxiety or panic attack. I can take it with me in public to prevent becomng overstimulated. It will help me socialize. It will distract me from pain. It can go get help if I have a seizure, or attempt suicide, or overdose. It will give me a responsibility- a reason to get out of bed, to take walks, to go outside.

Currently I am waiting to receive my disability checks. I will be getting $750.00 a month, which is more than enough for me to care for the dog, get special training, take it to the vet, provide a wholesome diet, etc.

Until then, however, I would like to go ahead and get the dog so we have time to bond and develop trust for one another.

Here are a few links to dogs I am currently considering:
(of course i will be keeping an eye out for new listings and checking shelters, too!)

The money I raise will cover the adoption fee, any vet bills such as shots, heartworm meds, and spaying- as well as a checkup, food, toys, a bed, a harness and leash, and any other unexpected expenses.

Anyone who helps will get a hand written letter of thanks from me, a picture of me and the dog, and the letter will even be signed with a paw-print from the pup themself!

Thank you all so much! Any excess funds will go towards my medical funds, primarily seeing a pain doctor.
