Bring the High Life home from Cuba

Donation protected

On the 25th of January 2015, S/V High Life set sail for Cuba on a collaborative mission to conduct research for an ongoing art project. In a flotilla of four boats we soon hit unforecasted weather. After a substantial knockdown and the according damage our crew of four yet to be experienced sailors in this situation found ourselves dramatically off course and ill equipped to cope with the deteriorating condition of the ship and weather. At approximately 1500 ltc we had our last radio contact with our companion vessels. As the sun was in its final stage of descent, the United States Coast Guard cutter Confidence sailed within sight and made radio contact. They launched a boarding team and soon found themselves in a tight spot. Safely astow upon the small vessel, they observed our situation and encouraged our crew to call it quits. Little did we know while humbly and safely aboard and heading home that the little sloop High Life was still continuing on her courageous journey to Cuba. One week later, all 14 lives are safe and news has just come in that S/V High Life has made it safely to port in Cuba under sail alone and without crew.
A small but capable team is preparing to return to the tiny ship that never gave up ,and bring her home. Our time is limited and so are our funds. Please make a small contribution in the next few days and be prepared to make your next sail aboard the very capable sloop High Life.

What is the money for?
- Lost safety gear. Life jackets, flares, hand held VHF
- Travel documents and fees
- Fees associated to the safe keeping of the vessel by a foreign government
- Although we have most things to make repairs we will need a working budget for the unforeseen

We will also be filming a documentary of our adventure

For 20 dollars you will receive a personal thank you letter written on a piece of the torn sail

For 50 dollars you will receive a mason jar filled with recovered bilge water and a cuban sea shell

For 100 dollars you will receive a hand made knife lanyard or a rope net bottle

Donors of 1,000 dollars or more will receive a very, very good secret gift

If successful, all donors will be invited for a sunset sail any time in Key West.
