EERI SDSU Seismic Competition 2015

Donation protected
Over the past three years, engineering students at San Diego State University have come together to form a Student Chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Our organization was formed in 2012 when a group of students noticed a lack of structural engineering focused organizations on campus. EERI provides an opportunity for SDSU undergraduate students to be exposed to seismic analysis and design–topics that aren’t included in our undergraduate curriculum.

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is an organization that advocates a variety of comprehensive and realistic measures for reducing the harmful effects of earthquakes. The organization is an international nonprofit technical society of engineers, geoscientists, architects, planners, public officials and social scientists. Their mission is to advance the practice and science of earthquake engineering by improving the understanding of the impact of earthquakes visually as well as socially, culturally, economically, politically, and environmentally.

As a new student chapter, we are working hard to create a reputable organization that provides our members with a unique hands-on design and construction experience while exposing them to seismic concepts. In 2015, EERI National will be holding their 11th Annual Seismic Design Competition in Boston, Massachusetts from March 31-April 3. Student chapters from across the country will design 5 foot balsa wood structures that will be subjected to ground motions. The analysis and design process takes several months as the students from the SDSU chapter conduct real structural analysis using balsa wood properties supplemented with computer model results.

In order to meet our projected goals, our chapter must raise an estimated amount of $5,000 to construct our building and subsidize our design team to attend the Seismic Design Competition. Help us pave our way to Boston!

Any amount of donation will bring us that much closer to our goal! If you would like to know more about our project and follow our journey, please visit our website

Thank you so much for all your help!
