What is Edgestrider Academy?
Edgestrider Academy is a nonprofit educational organization in Boulder, CO that provides instruction and fosters an environment for participants to practice important life skills, such as emotional awareness, teamwork, and self defense. Those are facilitated in guided life experiences which are immersive, realistic, safe, exciting, and fun.

After completing the curriculum at Edgestrider Academy, students will have a greater understanding of themselves and the world, will have had life changing experiences to draw wisdom from, and have skills that can help them through the most stressful experiences in their lives.
We need your help! Here’s how:
We were just formed at the beginning of the year and are incorporated as a non-profit. While we serve both adults and kids, the first group of participants so far are teenagers, and we have been trying to keep the cost low in order to not financially overburden their families. The money that we have raised so far this year has paid for liability insurance for 2016. All our current staff are volunteers. It takes about $1000 to run one of our monthly events, and we need your donation to run these programs, achieve our goals, and help these students.
Here is how we will use the donations:
Our first goal is to get IRS 501c3 status, so the first $5,000 that we raise will go to accomplishing that goal. This covers the lawyer fees and IRS fees to become a tax exempt entity in the US. A record will be kept of all donations, and if and when the 501c3 status is approved, all donors will be contacted to benefit from their donations.
Our second goal is to pay for the costs of the organization while keeping the cost per participant as low as possible. We want every person who wants to develop themselves in this way to be able to do so with no financial difficulties getting in their way. To accomplish that goal, we believe that the school should be free to attend, so we are trying to raise the first 5 years of expenses that the program will need in order to operate. During those 5 years, we will be creating additional fundraising and sponsorship campaigns in order to have a sustainable financial structure to allow people to attend for free in the future. This organization costs about $20,000 per year to operate, which covers all expenses related to the training classes and events, including insurance, supplies and equipment, and lodging and travel expenses; however, this excludes staff pay.
Our third goal is to pay at least two full time staff to completely devote their time to running the organization, teaching classes, creating and running events for the participants, networking and advertising, and fundraising. In order to accomplish this goal, we need to offer the two future staff members a fair wage so they can support themselves using our organization as their full time employment. A fair wage in our area amounts to about $40,000 per year per staff member, so for the full 5 years, that equates to $400,000 total for staff.
Accomplishing the first 3 goals will ensure the success of Edgestrider Academy for the first 5 years, and will give 5 years for the new staff to establish new methods of fundraising that are effective and sustainable. This will help make Edgestrider Academy a free and sustainable school for everyone! Please donate!
