Eden Hall Organic Hop Yard
Donation protected
Chatham University supports sustainable agriculture and local food systems. Last summer, 11 organic hop plants were grown in the Eden Hall Student Garden in Gibsonia, PA. Elisa Loeser, a graduate student in the Food Studies program, is constructing a ¼ acre trellis system for her thesis project to expand hops education and research at Eden Hall. These hops and other local ingredients will brewed for Eden, the 100% local, sustainable beer.
This program engages various members of the community, such as farmers, craft brewers, homebrewers, maltsers, ecologists, students, professors, chefs, historians, and others to brew with Eden Hall hops and other local ingredients. By building this hop yard, we ensure a continuation of these important relationships while progressing the growth of more local hops, developing a stronger sense of Western PA terroir, and continuing education around sustainable local food systems.
Now we need YOUR help to make this hop yard a reality to support local, sustainable agriculture and keep brewing great, local beer!
