ECLDF - Lay Dominicans Europe

What is the ECLDF?

The European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities is a group of five finally professed lay Dominicans from five European Provinces, elected by the European Assembly. Their roles are President, Secretary, Treasurer, Formation Officer and Communication Officer.

What does the ECLDF do?

Its purpose is (1) to gather and diffuse information on the Dominican laity throughout Europe; (2) to foster fraternal relations among the various Provinces and Vicariates; (3) to work towards a common formation plan for all European Lay Dominicans; (4) to stimulate and manage debate on the reality of lay Dominican life in our many countries and cultures; (5) to propose new initiatives, especially directed towards a spirit of unity and towards the future of the Dominican laity as a preaching organ within the Order; (6) to plan and organise the European Assembly.

Why does the ECLDF need financial help?

While most of their work is done via email and Skype, the Council members also meet twice annually, each time in a different Province, for a four-day meeting (Thursday to Sunday), in order to fulfil their purpose. The current members have also each travelled to other Provinces in order to become familiar with the local situation. In addition, the preparation of the Assembly demands considerable expenditure.
No Council member makes any profit from their work.
