Hello, my name is Joanne (Nana) Fa'avesi and my life has changed before my eyes in ways that I can’t imagine. My love for Rugby has been taken to the next level. I have played this amazing sport for 7-8 years. I can honestly say that Rugby has changed my life. It has challenged me to be a better person on and off the field because I am representing my team as a whole. I humbly accepted an invitation to represent the USA on the Stars Rugby Sevens Team in Australia this coming October. This will be my 2nd tour with the Stars and also my 2nd international tour.
The Stars Rugby Team gives me and other athletes the opportunity to play Rugby 7s at an elite level. We participate in multiple high performances camps and tournaments throughout the year. At the Australian Central Coast 7s Tournament the Stars will be facing the Canadian, Brazilian, Fijian and Australian National teams as well as select-side teams from New Zealand and Japan. This competition is the highest level collected outside of an IRB series tournament.
As I continue to train physically and mentally for this once in a lifetime opportunity that has been given to me, my family and I struggle to come up with the funds. The total cost of this tour reaches $3,500 which includes flights, housing, playing kit, tournament fees, coaching and medic fees. I am short $2,950. Anything and everything helps!
My years in Rugby have taken me many places all over the states. I play with the Sacramento Amazons and have also played with the USA U20 Women’s Rugby team and am now playing with the Stars Rugby Team. I have attended an Olympic Training Center Camp and plan to return there by playing more elite Rugby to get more experience and exposure.
