I am a middle school orchestra teacher in Ithaca, NY. I am working on a trip to Iceland to study music education in the schools and to research traditional instrumental music. When talking about Icelandic folk music, the focus is generally on singing and rich vocal traditions. Comparatively little space is given to the traditional folk instruments of Iceland, in part because of how little is actually known about them and the music they once made.
