Hope For Donghae Paws (HDP) is a group of volunteers supporting Donghae City Shelter in Korea. HDP in Korea actively operates as an adoption organization for homeless animals in Donghae City Shelter. We, the US residing members of HDP, are eight (8) individuals from all across the nation who are dedicated to bringing rescue dogs from Korea to the US and finding permanent homes for them. It is true there are many animal lovers in Korea, but still many dogs suffer and are killed for food. Our mission is to find homes for mixed, handicapped, senior, and large-breed dogs whose chances of being adopted in their native Korea are very low.
Donghae is a small port city located on the east coast of South Korea, a three-hour drive from Seoul. Donghae is surrounded by numerous small farm towns. Due to its location, most of the dogs in Donghae City Shelter are mixed-breed of various sizes. Recently, the number of dogs accommodated in Donghae City Shelter has exceeded the shelter's maximum capacity. Thus, those dogs who have stayed in the shelter more than one year are at a high risk of euthanasia by the city.
Despite a small amount of manpower, we seek to save Donghae dogs from such threats and initiated an adoption campaign in the US last July. So far, we have brought nine (9) dogs to the US, including two (2) blind angels.
We need your help to start a non-profit organization which will allow us to accept donations, so we will be able to bring more rescue dogs to the US.
The cost to bring a rescue dog from Korea to the US ranges from $500 to $800, including air cargo fee, medical exam, appropriate vaccinations, and domestic transportation cost. Part of the expenses are paid by adopters, but most of the expenses have been paid by us. In order to extend our US adoption campaign, we see the absolute need to start a non-profit organization which allows us to raise funds. In the past two (2) months, we've brought nine (9) dogs and are planning to bring many more with your help!
