Dirty For Diabetes/ Camp Care Free

Our 9 year old son, Charlie, was diagnosed with T1D (Type 1 Diabetes), at the age of 6.  We were recently informed of a summer camp for children with T1D, in New Hampshire, Camp Care Free.  This camp allows these children to realize that there are others out there going through the same struggles of this disease.  It also allows for an environment of fun, of understanding, no judgements and brief break from the reality that having T1D has made them exceedingly different than most of their peers.  Those of you that know of or actually know Charlie, probably see a "normal" 9yr old.  For the most part he is.  However, he has daily behind the scenes struggles with T1D and how it fits into his world and how it shapes his identity.  We would like to give him a chance to go to this camp and be around others going through the same thing.  It is a first come first serve basis and it is expensive.  Please help us make a difference for Charlie.

This disease affects millions. It is unpreventable and incurable. It is a day to day, minute to minute disease, and if not treated properly, can have fatal results.  People with T1D appear "normal" to the rest of us.  However, they are in a constant state of awareness of their body and in a constant struggle with their blood sugar levels.  They do not get breaks or days where they can relax and let things take care of themselves.  If they dont constantly monitor their blood sugar levels, food intake, insulin doses and how this relates to any and all activity throughout the day, they will get very sick.  In the most extreme cases they may go into a coma and die.  So, we created our team to help raise awareness and funds for JDRF, the leader in Type 1 diabetes research.  www.jdrf.org  There are a lot of new advancements on the horizon, that will drastically improve the quality of life for people living with T1D and perhaps even a cure. Please help us find a cure!
