On March 10th, 2015, the Board of Elections lost a beloved and invaluable member of our staff, Dennis Harris. Dennis, a Bronx resident and father of two, died suddenly. He was 36 years old.
For those who did not know Dennis, he was more than just an employee. Both physically and spiritually, Dennis truly had a larger than life presence. Given the nickname “Duck Dynasty” for his jolly beard and strong, broad physicality, everyone knew and loved Dennis. “Dennis was always willing to roll up his sleeves to help his co-workers both professionally and personally,” says Executive Director Michael J, Ryan. “I can personally attest to the fact that [he] will be greatly missed and his absence will leave a void that cannot be filled.
To Dawn Sandow, the Board’s Deputy Executive Director, “he was my gentle giant; a tall and husky gentleman who shed kindness to everyone. I enjoyed the many stories he told about his children, who were his world. He was a true friend and very protective of all he loved.”
For as loved as Dennis was at the Board, it was no match for the love and devotion he offered his family, especially his girlfriend and two daughters, Destiny & Anaeja. No one will forget the light in his eye whenever he talked about them or showed photos to his fellow employees. The void left in their lives is immense.
Dennis is survived by his mother and sister.
Dennis’ family will experience financial hardship in the days and weeks ahead. We hope that his extended BOE family will pull together and give any assistance possible to aid his girlfriend and children in this difficult time.
