Delton Band to Honor Veterans

The Delton Kellogg HS Band in Delton, MI, has been invited and accepted to perform at the 2017 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in December. We will also perform with the United States Marine Corps Band and put on a mini concert at the USS Missouri. Students will tour the Pearl Harbor Memorial and learn much more about this historical event, and they will have the chance to meet many WWII veterans.
This opportunity is only available to certain states each year, and they only accept two groups per state! We are very honored to be able to do this, but we will need some financial help to get students there.
Though we are small, the band has achieved Division I ratings at Festivals for many years, and we also toured to Gatlinburg in 2011 and 2015 for the Smoky Mountain Music Festival. This group is especially passionate about helping our rural community of Delton, and we perform and volunteer often for veterans activities, parades, community Christmas events, and put together a regionally well-known Veterans Day Concert each year.
With any trip of this magnitude, the fundraising tasks are always monumental. However, with the support of the community and local businesses, we can help give our students an experience they will never forget. Though the students have been busy doing individual fundraising, there are many costs for a trip of this scale that present many challenges. Our request is for donations to help defray the expenses of the transportation of the uniforms, instruments and luggage and offset some of the costs to students. Each donation received will go towards these purposes. In turn, this will help lower the cost of the students’ individual trip. With a trip cost of $2,500 per student (40 students), families have made many sacrifices to ensure their children can have this experience. Your donation can help alleviate some of that burden and ensure all of our band members are able to participate in this great event.
We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to consider a donation to the Delton Kellogg High School Band. Our goal is to send as many students as we can, while keeping the financial burden to a minimum for the families of those students traveling. Students are making payments toward this trip on a prescribed schedule, and the final payments have to be made by October 2017.
