Through a competitive try out process involving athletes from across the country I have been selected to represent the United States on the U.S. National Dragon Boat Team Senior C Division (over 60 years old) at the World Dragon Boat Championships in Kunming, China in October 2017. Most of you know of my love of dragon boat racing since moving to China in the year 2000. I was bitten by the dragon. It is the physical challenge, the love of the team, and to top it off , experiencing the honor of representing the United States at the world championship level. The feeling of wearing USA on my back and hearing the national anthem at my age, is like a dream.
You may know that dragon boating is a paddling sport with 20 paddlers, ten pairs of two, in a long narrow boat with a steers person and drummer on the front of the boat. I will be competing in three distances, 200 meters, 500 meters and 2,000 meters. You can see a short videos of a world class dragon boat race here.

I am seeking funding to support the travel expenses for the training in the U. S. prior to China and to support the travel to China. Any donation you can give would go directly towards my race expenses. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to participate in an international sport competition. I have never been sporty. I played the piano in my youth. Then, I found my place when I moved to China. Moving back I knew I had to find a Rotary Group and a Dragon Boat team. I found both. I coach a breast cancer survivor team, and I paddle for 4 dragon boat teams. I can promise you, that I will do my best to represent the USA and I will do it with class.
