I purchased land 4 months ago that had been burned out 2 years ago. There is a well and septic, but nothing else but weeds and burned dead trees.
I bought a building that was wired for electric, insulated, had minimal plumbing, and paneling. When I had an electrician come to sign off on it for the electric company to install a meter box, he told me the wiring was illegal and not even shielded.
I had to pull out all the paneling, insulation, and wiring, and have to replace all the wire with sheathed 12/3 wiring before I can get any power installed on the land.
I am in a fight with the company that sold me the building, as the fact that is was 'supposedly' ready to move into was the primary reason for my purchase of this particular building. I have some legal issues I am dealing with, and my wife's pay is being garnished over debts incurred after I was injured in September of 2012, and was unable to work.
I have no electric, have to pull water up 75 feet with a rope tied to a PVC pipe from the well, with no A/C I am living in a tarp with all my possessions in a pile in front of a building I can not move into until I get it wired, and have had to spend twice as much as normal for food, as I cannot store it with no refridgeration. Even keeping our clothes clean is choice of spending money I can't afford to go to the laundromat, or pulling multiple pipes of water out of the well, and washing them by hand on a washboard tub.
I only need enough to purchase the materials to wire the house, and perhaps improve the plumbing. I will do the work myself, and pay the electrician to approve it. Any thing at all will help.
