David Schleede Recovery Fund

On Wednesday, April 29th, 2015, David Schleede of  The Famous Bike Brothers in Kingston was seriously injured when he fell from his bike after hitting a large pothole, while leading out the Wednesday Night Ride.

Dave was air-lifted to Albany Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.  He suffered many serious injuries, including a fractured skull, fractured hip, fractured arm, shattered ribs, punctured lung and diaphragm.  He has subsequently undergone additional surgeries to implant titanium supports in his ribs, and to repair the punctured diaphragm.

It should be noted, Dave was wearing a proper helment, and abiding by all the legal rules of the road.  He just was not able to avoid a hazard presented by the rough roadway.

Dave is a fighter, but he has a long road of recovery ahead of him.  In the coming weeks he will need to undergo additional surgeries, therapy and months of rehabilitation.

For 40 years Dave and his brother Marty have run the Famous Bike Brothers shop in Kinsgston, NY.  As well as the Rhinebeck Bike Shop in Rhinebeck, NY.  Dave is a pillar of the cycling community in the Hudson Valley, and a respected business and community leader.   Over the years, he has been a faithful supporter and organizer of many charitable rides in the Hudson Valley.  Including the Gruner Cancer Charitable Ride, the Tour de Kingston, Ride the Ridge, and others.

The upcoming months will be particularly challenging for Dave and his family.  He will need the help of all his friends and the community  to help him get through this difficult time.  He will be unable to work or support his family for a long time.

We ask everyone who is able to help Dave out by making a contribution to the David Schleede Recovery Fund.  Your generousity will help ease the financial burder on Dave.  It will allow him to focus his energies on mending his broken bones, regaining his health, and getting back to the Dave we all know and love.

Thank you.
