Dave's Life Fund - Fighting Cancer

HELP!  This fundraiser has come to a screaching halt for some reason.  Dave could really use the help.  This fund is to help my brother Dave have a better quality of life during his fight with cancer.

FAMILY
This photo is my brother Dave walking me down the aisle in 1997, just six days after losing our Dad.  Dave has been caring for our Mom for many years now.  They live out of state away from the rest of the family. 

ILLNESS
Last Fall, Dave was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.  He is weak and in pain much of the time.

There are only treatments to prolong life and make it more comfortable.  Since caring for our Mom has been Dave's full time job, he doesn't have traditional health insurance, just Medicaid which covers basics. 

There are treatment options that offer hope for a longer, better quality of life, but Medicaid does not cover them.   Your help could be life changing!

THE FACTS OF LIFE
Because of Dave's weakened state, he cannot easily do things that we all take for granted like cooking a meal or folding laundry.  Just making coffee is exhausting.

I live out of state but travel there every weekend and do the grocery shopping, bring some frozen home-cooked meals, and do whatever else I can.  They also have some household help but really need more regular assistance for all the household chores and meal preparation. 

It recently became apparent that Dave needs a walk-in shower/tub combo just to be able to soak in the bathtub, but it also needs wheelchair access for my Mom.  It is $5,000 plus installation.

I spoke to the Cancer Centers of America last night.  They don't accept Medicaid.  So, although there may be better care and treatments available, our government healthcare doesn't pay enough for these specialized hospitals to accept it!   Money is always the problem.

DAVE'S WISH
Dave just wants to outlive our Mom and be able to continue to care for her in her own home where she lived with our Dad and where she wants to stay.  It's such a basic desire.  And totally unselfish. 

MY WISH
Everyone has things on their "bucket list".  I don't even know what most of Dave's are, but I would love for him to be able to do at least one thing that he wouldn't otherwise be able to do that would give him some fun and fulfillment.   The one thing I know he wants is to have distant friends visit him in the very near future.
