Locke Middle School “Locke Monsters” Robotics Team Qualified for VEX Robotics World Championship in Kentucky for the Second Year in a Row
On Sunday February 28th, the Locke Monsters Robotics team secured a spot at the VEX Robotics World Championship for the second year in a row by competing at the Southern New England Nothing But Net Middle School Championship held at North High School in Worcester, Massachusetts. The 16 member team fielded three robots, 8025A, 8025B and 8025C. Team 8025B finished all matches undefeated and 8025A and 8025C participated in the quarterfinals before being defeated.
We are proud to say that Team 8025B received the Tournament Champions Award, the Programming Skills Winner Award and the Robot Skills Winner Award at this competition. Due to these achievements, Locke Middle School is currently ranked #1 in robot skills and #2 in programming skills in southern New England.
The robotics club was founded in February of 2014 by Maureen Parker and this is the second year that the students were able to compete for the championship.
Each scrimmage the students attended saw steady improvement in their ranking as well as their skills. The students are enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working, creative and cool under pressure. The robotics competition skills of collegiality, negotiation, strategizing, problem solving, split second timing, and attention to detail will serve them well in their future academic and career endeavors.
The Locke Monsters look forward to competing at the World Championship in Kentucky in April, and to all that this experience will entail. We will proudly represent the Locke Middle School and the town of Billerica to the world.
In order for the Locke Monsters to participate in the VEX Robotics World Championship, they must raise the $7000 needed for transportation, hotel, competition fees and other miscellaneous expenses.
