Gizzy needs Heart Surgery
Meet Gazelle, also known as Gizzy, Giz, and Gizzard. Pacific Pug Rescue found Gizzy in a shelter and promptly placed her into foster care while they assessed her health needs and searched for the perfect forever family to adopt her. Giz was very underweight and nervous when PPR took her in, conditions no doubt aggravated by her heart murmur. While waiting for her routine, pre-adoption medical exams, Gizzy spent several weeks living with a foster family, playing with their three-year-old Pug, and forming a wonderful, sisterly bond with her foster-sister, a ten-week old puppy. Giz has spent the past few weeks running, jumping, wrestling, and napping just like any normal five-month-old puppy. When her medical exam finally came around the vet diagnosed her with hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and recommended that she see a cardiologist, as her heart murmur seemed like it might be something more. Giz, cheerful as ever, spent the intervening weeks racing her foster sister around the kitchen and playing tug-o’-war.
Despite her great demeanor and amazing energy, the cardiologist recently diagnosed Gizzy with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a heart disorder that, if left untreated, will very likely lead to congestive heart failure by the time Giz is two or three years old. On the heart scale of 1 to 6, poor Gizzy is a 5. By allowing Giz this heart surgery, we are giving her a chance to live a full and healthy life, full of the same joyous energy she’s shown these past several weeks. This is where you come in. Heart surgeries are very pricey and we want to make sure that this little one gets the treatment she needs. We need you, and anyone you can share this with, to help give this little puppy a chance at a real life. Gizzy is still under foster care with Pacific Pug Rescue and will be up for adoption once surgery has been completed and recovery time is over. Proceeds from this fundraiser to directly to Pacific Pug Rescue for Gizzy's surgery costs.
