Van-quish Hunger in Waterville
The Greater Waterville Area Food Bank is in need of a van, and it turns out, vans cost quite a lot of money!
We have been abundantly blessed with huge quantities of FREE food coming in three times a week, but the catch is, we have to go pick it up. So far we have relied on an old pickup truck owned by the Secretary of our Board of Directors and multiple compact cars driven by our volunteers to get the food, but this is just not working. Our volunteers are mainly retired folks that are finding it very physically difficult to load and unload the thousands of pounds of food we pick up weekly- and the pickup truck is now infirm enough that it no longer passes state inspection- meaning it's not legal to drive anymore. We need a commercial van we can stand up in while we load, one we can drive a forklift up to and load on the pallets of food directly into it.
It seems like the most ironic of obstacles, but there it is- we have record-breaking numbers of people coming in for help, and we have enough food to feed them, we just need a little help getting the food to the people who need it.
