Hello my name is Tatiana Méndez, I am 23 years old and I am currently living in Puerto Rico. From July 26th to August 3 I was in tha Adventist Youth Congress in the City of Guatemala. The organization called " Abraza Guatemala" (Hug Guatemala) sponsored by the Adventist Church united 34 countries to do 23 social projects in different areas of Guatemala. You can say that is a great impact but after understading the people's needs I felt that I wanted to get more involved. Once I came back to my country I realized that the majority of the people I meet suffered from malnutrition specially kids. In case you didn't know Guatemala is the country with the highest rate of malnutrition in Latin America and the Western hemisphere, and the fourth highest rate in the world. Thinking in my room I decided to check in google ways to help and suddenly crowfunding appeared...I guess this was God's idea.
I wanted something concrete. So that's when I contact Frances Dixon, which works with remote villages in the rugged northwestern Huehuetenango region. They provide education and train families in sustainable gardening. Such a project requires funds to purchase tools, organic manure, seeds, organic insecticide, a professional soil test, and funds to support an agricultural technician.The funds required will mainly depend on the size of the village, but an average figure would be $3,500.
When I was in Guatemala I kept remembering all the kids that I meet in Pacaya Volcano and others that I saw around the country. In my mind there was a mental image of their shoes. Most of them had shoes in very bad conditions. For this reason I also wanted to collect money in order to provide shoes for the kids . We are going to select a region based on the community needs. The Adventist Church from the region selected will buy the shoes in Guatemala and will distribute them around the area. Aprroximate cost for 100 pair of shoes is $1,500.
I have no idea of how much help I will get from my friends, family and others but I feel the desire of helping. Your support will help us cover the expenses and most importantly you will fulfill what Jesus said in Matthew 25: 35-40 " For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.' "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'
