I'm a fourth-year college student from Greeley, Colorado. Last year, I transferred from my community college to Biola University in California, where I planned to graduate as an English major and pursue a career as an editor in a publishing house. But my family went through a lot of financial hardships, and I couldn't afford to come back. So I took this fall semester off and I've been working in the meantime to save up. I get a lot of hours, but I only earn minimum wage, and that's not nearly enough to cover tuition.
I'm the oldest of five kids - the youngest is 13 and I'm 22. Two of us are already in college, and I have another brother getting ready to graduate high school. My parents are divorced, and my mom has been raising us by herself for years. She works as a line cook at an Embassy Suites hotel and quite frequently pulls a lot of overtime hours, but she makes less than $12/hr, so most of her paycheck goes to groceries and bills with very little leftover. My dad lives out of state and is constantly moving from job to job; child support payments are scattered and iffy at best. So long story short, I can't receive help from either of my parents.
I would love nothing more than to return to school and finish my degree, and I will work as much as I can to make it happen. But the deadline for next semester is quickly approaching, and I'm finding myself short about $8,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's only a couple of dollars. Thank you for your time and support!
