Craig Jr.'s BMT-Sickle Cell Cure

Donation protected

Craig Randle Jr. is a bright and cheerful young man who was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia at birth. He had few problems until about 8 years old when he started to develop vasco-occlusive pain that required hospitalization several times a year. As he got older, intermittent pain has persisted and last year alone he missed 2 months of school. This past September more complications including symptoms of acute chest syndrome, an increase of pain crises, required even more stays in the hospital. A bone marrow transplant was then recommended since his body was not responding to the narcotics and his condition has gotten worse. The pain Craig is enduring and the strain of more hospital visits has been a struggle for the Randle family both financially and emotionally.

One true answer to prayer was that Craig's sister Sophia was almost a perfect match to be a donor for the bone marrow transplant. Now that a donor has been established, Craig is scheduled to have surgery in April. Before the transplant, he will need to go through a pre-conditioning phase which will take about 6 weeks. After the transplant is complete, there will be a 3-4 month recovery period to monitor for infections followed by at least 1 year of building back his immune system. Needless to say, Craig Jr. will be spending a lot of time away from school and will need assistance around the clock.

His mother Mamie will be going on Family Medical Leave to stay bedside during the entire procedure and caring for him after recovery. Already she has had to take numerous days off to be with Craig and is expected to miss at least a year more of work. Craig Sr. has also maxed out his available time off work and needs to keep working to keep the family afloat. The loss of income over the past year and the year to come is the true need for support.

The Randle's are one of the most generous, self sacrificing families I've been around. Their dedication to their community in supporting others over the years has had a true impact on the lives they have been able to bless. Now there is an opportunity for others to step in and help shoulder the burden that they are faced with. It's sometimes not easy being on the other end of receiving help when you are so used to doing it for others. However, they can only do so much and they are facing many unknowns with both the health of their son and the stability of their home.

Please consider making a donation to help pay for the loss of income to stay ahead of the bills that are already starting to add up. If your not able to donate yourself, consider sharing Craig Jr.'s situation to others that can. Above all else, please pray for Craig Jr. as he goes through everything related to surgery and for the family as they stand courageously by his side.

God bless you and your family
