College Trip 2015

We are going like Gilligan except that it won't just be a three-hour tour! This March, Catch!Life is taking students on a tour of colleges in the Northwest at the end of March,  Later this spring, we will travel to Utah to see three or four schools there. Finally, we will return to our home turf to tour College of Idaho and U of I. It is going to be great! We will be taking mainly juniors who are in the throes of college decision making, as well as a few sophomores eager to get a head start. We took one sophomore on last year’s tour. When I asked him recently if going as a sophomore was helpful, he gave an emphatic yes! He said, ”it helped me to research, think about what I was doing as an emphasis in school and use the information I had gathered to start making my decision. I think this last trip will help me even more because I know even better what I am looking for.” The most exciting thing about these tours is that all the youth are "first generation" students, that is, they will be the first in their families to attend university. These kids began life here in America as refugees. Many of their parents are from a purely oral tradition, with little or no formal education. This heritage is invaluable, and while it could be viewed as an obstacle, it builds incredibly strong memorization skills which are crucial to success in college. One of our students plans on being a doctor and another wants to be a dentist, both professions that require particularly keen memorization skills! Some of our students know exactly what they want to be, such as a doctor or a dentist, or even a progressive farm-to-table farmer! But some of them need to see the campus to get a feel for the college experience and challenge them to come Please help us out! Anything you can give will be just right!
