Christmas Meal for IDPs in Burma

My name is Esther. I am a member of Kachin Peace Network. I would like to invite you to share a christmas meal with war-torn displaced people in Kachin and Shan states of Burma/Myanmar.

This December marks the four and half years since the recommencement of civil war in Kachin and Shan States of Myanmar also known as Burma. The offensive fighting continues until today. This has produced over 150,000 internally displaced people living in IDP camps in northern Myanmar.

The IDPs have been denied access to adequate aid and support in Kachin State, because humanitarian agencies must seek permission from the government to go to IDP sites in areas under the control of ethnic armed groups. Since June 2015, the funding reduced by 50% leaving IDPs with only 200 kyats per day (about 20 cents) for their basic survival. With increasing numbers of IDPs and decreasing levels of funding, the situation of those in IDP camps is now particularly worrying. Currently, less than 48% of IDPs’ basic needs are being met and they are in desperate need of continued humanitarian assistance.

As a result, they have not been able to celebrate the Merry Christmas for 5 times since 2011. For them, Christmas is a time of sorrow and sadness due to their houses having been destroyed, their loved ones killed, raped, tortured and various other misfortunes.
Let's share our joy and gift to make them smile on this Christmas.

The fund will be distributed to most needed camps by Kachin Peace Network in closely collaboration with Joint Strategy Team (JST). JST is a coordination body of 9 organizations which are directly working and providing assistances in the displaced camps.
